Our Many Colored Days

June 19, 2013 by themommahen

We’re a Seussian family — we love the good Dr. Seuss and have just about all his books, thanks to our membership in a book club we were suckered into shortly after H#1’s birth. She had quite the impressive library before she was six months old.

One of the universal favorites (besides all of them) of the Hatchlings is My Many Colored Days. Both H#1 and H#2, upon being introduced to the book at different times, seemed to latch on to the idea of the last two pages (which I can’t quote due to copyright reasons) about how our moods change, and sometimes we don’t even know who we are, but en the end it all turns out fine because we go back to our normal selves.

Today ran the gamut of colors and moods, as it always does when our schedule is disrupted or changed. H#1 went to her soccer camp, and I took the boys to run some errands. By the time we picked up the girl, she was exhausted, hot and ready to decompress. H#2 on the other hand, was excited to get his big sister back and excitedly began showing her things we’d gotten and telling her what we did, to which she had no real reply. To which he took great offense. From which she got really sad. To which he responded with a growl and a scowl. To which I responded that we were going to all have to go to our respective corners and take a time out, which I meant in the sports way and they took in the punishment way and almost put our day off the rails.

But it all turned out alright. You see?

Brown bears, red birds, yellow ducks, blue horses...

A rainbow of cars. Done all on their own.
