Definitely the Third Child

Perhaps we’re not quite ready to go to one nap. Or perhaps we are ready, but it needs to be earlier. Or maybe I’m a boring lunch date. All are entirely possible, but one thing’s for sure: Hatchling #3 is definitely a third child.
He would’ve been upstairs 30 minutes earlier, but I decided to give him a quick lunch/snack while I fixed the other Hatchlings’ lunches. I knew I was pushing it, but I didn’t realize that when he was blinking and winking at me while eating hummus and pretzels he was actually falling asleep. One minute he was asking for more hummus (“Da? Da?” which means “That? That?”) and the next his eyes just slid closed and his head tilted back just a bit, his hand still grasping a hummus-smeared pretzel.
I felt guilty about it for a minute and then did what any mother in my situation would do–grabbed my camera, called the other Hatchlings over to see and documented the moment.
And yes, Jaguwar, I did move him. (You’d think after three kids I’d know better.) But this time it didn’t bother him in the least.
