America’s economy: Time for a double dip? | The Economist

If America does manage to avoid recession and slowly begins to pull out of this mire, it will be testimony to its underlying strengths. It still has huge advantages over other rich countries: a younger, less-taxed population, a more innovative economy and, for now at least, the dollar as the global reserve currency. If only it had the political leaders to match, its chance of avoiding recession would be far better than one in two.

“If only [we] had the political leaders to match…” On both sides of the aisle. Here’s hoping we all — no matter the party affiliation — vote for the leaders we need next time we get a chance, from local politics all the way up.

My sentiments exactly. We need huge doses of trust, confidence, and optimism.

I really really want to believe that we’ll have an opportunity to vote for the leaders we need, but I am not optimistic, given the nature of campaign funding in this country. It is clear (to me, anyway) that the outsized influence of monied interests will continue to corrode confidence and trust in our leaders and our system more broadly.

Big, big downer, I know, but I find myself being more and more disappointed all the time. My solution (and this is still a sacrilege to me, but it’s the only thing that’s working, so I do it anyway) is to turn off the news and tune out.

Ahhhhhhh, Corrina, downer, yes but unfortunately true. And I have to admit I've dealt with it the same way; tuning in and out. I just can't take much of it. My tolerance level for adults acting like petulant brats is pretty low.

Walking in the snow So beautiful. But please let the power stay on. Morning chicken duty is always more fun when snow is falling. A little cold today. #brrr #beach I'm gonna Momma Hen you all for a minute with a gentle reminder that giving kids access to social media accounts -- whether theirs or yours, whether they're "old enough" or not -- without any guidance or oversight is not so different from letting your kid drive a car on the highway without any training. The damage may not be physical, and with a little luck there wont be any damage at all, but...images seen cannot be unseen, words said cannot be unsaid, things heard cannot be unheard.

https://themommahen.com/2018/01/10/kids-and-social-media-who-knows-what-theyre-seeing/ Birthdays are meant to be celebrated, even when it's back to school after an extended break. #12
